LOOK: Eight (8) small-scale commercial fishing vessels conducting actual fishing operations using trawl at the municipal waters of Cavite City were apprehended by the DA-BFAR Fisheries Resource Protection Group Central Office (DA-BFAR FRPG CO) on July 18 during a seaborne operation against illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing in Manila Bay and vicinities.
The fishing vessels marked FBca DAIZA, FBca PRINCESS ARA, FBca ROWENA CRIS, FBca RHUMEL, FBca ALLISSA MARIE, FBca ANDREA, FBca JOHN ANDREA, FBca LAKAN UNO were found to have violated Sections 86 (a.1)(Unauthorized Fishing) and 95 (Use of Active Gear in Municipal Waters, Bays and other Fishery Management Area) of RA 8550 (The Philippine Fisheries Code) as amended by RA 10654. FBca LAKAN UNO also incurred a violation of Section 121 (Use of Unlicensed Gear).
The eight fishing vessels were escorted to El Varadero, Sangley Point, Cavite City for impoundment of the vessels, proper documentation and filing of administrative charges. The apprehending team also recovered three (3) abandoned trawl fishing gears, subject for safekeeping.
The DA-BFAR continues to call on the public to report and provide reliable information of any witnessed IUU fishing activities to your respective BFAR Regional Offices and Local Government Units.
